Can Vases Be Printed Watertight in Vase Mode?

In the “Dura: PLA based biodegradable Nylon Analog” blog post, I mentioned that I had not tried using the optimized bottom/ ironing-enabled method with other filaments. Later, I performed tests on vases using three types of filaments; Dura Nylon PLA, Pro PLA by 3D Printlife, and PLA by Push Plastic. The definition of watertight for these tests is the vase holds water for more than 2 weeks without leaking. The results of my tests are that vase diameter, filament, the top fill pattern, and slicer are all factors in making watertight vase mode vases.

Dura: PLA based biodegradable Nylon Analog

A couple of months ago, I received an email from 3D Printlife about Dura nylon. After reading the description, I thought it might work for making a cushioned shoe sole and for the chair cushion, so I ordered a spool. I was hoping it would make a softer cushion, where covering the top with cotton batting and fabric would not be required.

Save Heat Energy Printing PLA During Summer Months

I designed a coffee table but I dreaded printing parts for it as I didn’t want to create a heat source in my living space during the early dog days of summer. The parts were to be printed on my Prusa MK3s+. The power supply unit (PSU) was on the outside of the enclosure I am building for the printer and I have noticed that it often becomes practically too hot to touch.

Chair Design Series, Part 4

It has been a little over 2 years and the chair design I was close to printing has not been printed. I was having difficulty trying to figure out how to prevent the chair from collapsing in the middle. My goal was to have an entirely 3d printed chair that could be printed on a desktop 3d printer. Some details remain; however, I believe printing can begin this Summer.

Is A Chair Cushion Possible With colorFabb LW-PLA?

Upon seeing an announcement about colorFabb’s LW-PLA, my first thought was cushions. The filament was on back order at the time and I waited a few months for it to arrive. I waited again before I tried printing with the filament as I learned a direct drive extruder was best. Finally, in February I was able to begin printing.
